SBC Visakhapatnam Announces Recruitment for 9 Group C Vacancies Including Fitter, Electrician and Driver Posts

• Ship Building Centre, Visakhapatnam has announced 9 Group ‘C’ vacancies for Fitter, Electrician, Fire Engine Driver and Civilian Motor Transport Driver posts.

Ship Building Centre (SBC), Visakhapatnam, under the Ministry of Defence (R&D), is set to open online applications for nine General Central Service Group ‘C’ vacancies from August 22, 2026. Advertisement No. 3201/2026 covers technical trade as well as driving positions, with qualifications ranging from Class 10 and ITI to prescribed driving licences and relevant experience.

Applications will remain open until September 14 at 11:00 PM. The recruitment process is particularly different for the driver posts: candidates shortlisted after the Computer Based Test will have to demonstrate practical driving skills, while Fire Engine Driver applicants will additionally face a physical endurance test.

The vacancies comprise three Construction Assistant A (Fitter), two Construction Handler (Electrician), three Fire Engine Driver (Ordinary Grade) and one Civilian Motor Transport Driver (Ordinary Grade) post. Pay levels range from Level 1 to Level 3 under the 7th CPC.

Eligibility for Technical Posts

For Construction Assistant A (Fitter), candidates must have passed Class 10 and hold an ITI/NAC qualification in the Fitter trade. Two years of relevant experience is also required.

Construction Handler (Electrician) applicants need Class 10 along with an ITI qualification in the Electrician trade.

The requirements for the two driver posts combine educational eligibility, driving credentials and practical experience.

Fire Engine Driver candidates need Class 10, a valid Heavy Motor Vehicle driving licence, knowledge of motor mechanisms and three years of driving experience. They must also meet the prescribed physical fitness requirements.

For Civilian Motor Transport Driver, candidates need Class 10, a valid LMV/Motor Car driving licence, knowledge of motor mechanisms and three years of driving experience.

Age Limit and Application Fee

Applicants must be between 18 and 27 years of age as on September 14, 2026. Age relaxation will be available to eligible categories under the applicable rules.

CBT to Carry 100 Questions

The first major selection stage is a 120-minute Computer Based Test containing 100 objective-type questions. The paper will be bilingual in Hindi and English except for the General English component where applicable.

The question distribution differs between technical and driver posts.

The stated minimum qualifying marks are 35% for UR, 30% for OBC and 25% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

Driver Posts Have Additional Practical Tests

Candidates applying for Fire Engine Driver and Civilian Motor Transport Driver should note that clearing the CBT alone will not complete the selection process.

For Fire Engine Driver, shortlisted candidates in a 1:15 ratio will have to complete an endurance test. The prescribed activities include carrying filled sand and water buckets for 100 metres within 45 seconds, 20 squats, 15 push-ups and 15 bent-knee sit-ups.

The subsequent Fire Engine Driver skill assessment covers ramp and road driving, traffic rules and symbols, routine vehicle checks, tyre rotation, identification of defects, first-line repairs and operation of a water pump.

CMT Driver candidates will face a practical driving test involving HMV/LMV driving on ramp and road, along with checks related to lubricating oil, coolant, vehicle cleanliness, minor adjustments and basic vehicle mechanisms.

SBC Group C Selection Stages

For Construction Assistant A and Construction Handler, selection primarily proceeds through the CBT followed by the subsequent verification and fitness requirements.

For the driver posts, the process adds qualifying practical assessments. Depending on the post, the recruitment stages are:

4. Upload the prescribed photograph, signature, proof of birth, educational certificates and category documents.
5. Driver-post applicants should upload the required driving licence and other documents specified in the advertisement.
6. Pay the ₹350 examination fee online if applicable.
7. Preview the completed application and correct any errors before final submission.
8. Submit the application no later than September 14, 2026 at 11:00 PM.
9. Retain the generated application form and registration details for the recruitment process.
