POWERGRID Announces Engineer Trainee Recruitment 2027 Through GATE: Electrical, Civil, CS and Electronics Posts

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has issued an advance advertisement for Engineer Trainee Recruitment 2027 through GATE 2027. Fresh engineering graduates will be considered in four disciplines — Electrical, Civil, Computer Science and Electronics — while the number of vacancies will be announced before POWERGRID opens its separate online application process.

Advertisement No. CC/03/2026, dated September 24, 2026, makes GATE 2027 qualification mandatory for the recruitment. Candidates must register for and appear in the relevant EE, CE, CS or EC paper before applying separately to POWERGRID when its Engineer Trainee application window opens, tentatively in March/April 2027.

The regular deadline for GATE 2027 registration is September 27, 2026, with late-fee registration available until October 5. These are GATE registration deadlines and not the closing date for POWERGRID applications. The PSU will announce its final vacancy count and application schedule separately.

POWERGRID Engineer Trainee Recruitment 2027 Notification

POWERGRID, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, is using GATE 2027 scores to recruit Engineer Trainees. The advance advertisement covers engineering graduates and eligible final-year students in the four notified disciplines.

Engineering Disciplines and GATE 2027 Papers

Only candidates from the engineering branches specified for the respective discipline will be considered.

Candidates belonging to engineering disciplines outside the notified branches are not eligible under this recruitment.

POWERGRID may also consider GATE 2027 scores for recruitment to other positions in its subsidiaries depending on organizational requirements.

Educational Qualification

Applicants must possess a full-time B.E., B.Tech. or B.Sc. Engineering degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized university or institute with at least 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA.

For SC, ST and PwBD candidates, the minimum qualifying marks in the essential qualification may be relaxed to pass marks where the vacancy is reserved for the respective category, subject to the conditions of the detailed recruitment notification.

Final-Year Engineering Students

Candidates currently in their final year or final semester can also participate, provided their final result is expected by August 31, 2027.

Such candidates must have secured at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in aggregate up to the pre-final examination when applying, subject to the applicable relaxation provisions.

GATE 2027 Requirement

Candidates must register for GATE 2027 and appear in the paper corresponding to their POWERGRID discipline:

• EE for Electrical
• CE for Civil
• CS for Computer Science
• EC for Electronics

Applicants must qualify in GATE 2027 according to the qualifying marks declared by the GATE organizing body. Candidates should retain their GATE admit card and scorecard for use during the POWERGRID recruitment and verification process.

POWERGRID Engineer Trainee Age Limit

The upper age limit is 28 years as on March 31, 2027.

Applicable relaxation includes three years for OBC-NCL candidates and five years for SC/ST candidates for posts reserved for the respective categories.

For reserved posts, PwBD candidates are eligible for relaxation of 10 years for UR/EWS, 13 years for OBC-NCL and 15 years for SC/ST. Relaxation for Ex-Servicemen and riot victims will apply according to Government of India rules and the conditions in the detailed notification.

POWERGRID Engineer Trainee Salary

Engineer Trainees will undergo one year of training before placement in E2 Grade after successful completion.

During training, candidates will receive basic pay of ₹40,000 along with IDA, HRA and perks at 12% of basic pay. Actual CTC can vary depending on the place of posting and applicable appointment conditions.

Service Agreement Bond

Candidates selected as Engineer Trainees will be required to execute a service agreement bond covering the training period and a minimum of three years of service with POWERGRID after training.

Selection Process

GATE 2027 is the first mandatory stage of POWERGRID Engineer Trainee Recruitment 2027. Candidates must appear in and qualify the appropriate GATE paper before submitting their separate POWERGRID application.

Shortlisting will be based on GATE 2027 scores. POWERGRID will specify the complete subsequent selection procedure in its detailed recruitment notification before online registration begins.

The process will also include verification of documents and fulfillment of the company’s medical standards before appointment.

Application Fee

The indicated application fee is ₹500 for candidates required to pay the fee.

SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and POWERGRID departmental candidates are exempt from payment. The fee is non-refundable and is to be paid online.
