NIF Scientist Recruitment 2026 Notification Released: Apply Online to 10 Scientist B, C and D Vacancies

National Innovation Foundation – India (NIF), an autonomous institute of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, has announced recruitment for 10 Scientist vacancies through direct recruitment. The openings are available at Scientist ‘B’, Scientist ‘C’ and Scientist ‘D’ levels, with candidates required to have Ph.D. or Master’s-level qualifications along with the prescribed research credentials and experience.

Online applications for NIF Scientist Recruitment 2026 opened on August 29. Candidates must apply through the NIF recruitment portal within 30 days from publication of the advertisement in Employment News/Rozgar Samachar. The recruitment offers regular positions at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, with pay ranging from Level-10 to Level-12 under the 7th CPC.

NIF Scientist Recruitment 2026 Notification

NIF has issued Advertisement No. Adv/02/2026 for Scientist posts in various disciplines through open competition. Of the 10 advertised vacancies, one is for Scientist ‘D’, four are for Scientist ‘C’ and five are for Scientist ‘B’.

NIF Scientist Vacancy and Pay Scale

Scientist ‘B’ accounts for half of the advertised vacancies, with five positions. Four Scientist ‘C’ posts and one Scientist ‘D’ post are also available.

Educational Qualification and Research Experience

Applicants must satisfy the qualification, research experience and publication requirements prescribed for the level concerned.

Scientist ‘D’

Candidates require a Ph.D. in the relevant discipline along with five years of R&D experience and five publications.

Scientist ‘C’

A Ph.D. in the relevant field is required along with three years of R&D experience and three publications.

Scientist ‘B’

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or a First Class Master’s Degree in the relevant field along with the prescribed publication requirements. Two publications are required.

Age Limit

The upper age limit differs between Scientist ‘D’ and the other two levels.

Relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable according to Government of India rules for eligible categories.

Application Fee

The application fee is Rs. 1,000 for UR, OBC and EWS applicants. SC, ST, PwBD and women candidates are exempted from payment.

The application fee is non-refundable and will not be adjusted under any circumstances.

NIF Scientist Selection Process

Applications will initially be scrutinised by a Screening-cum-Shortlisting Committee. NIF may use appropriate shortlisting criteria to restrict the number of applicants called for subsequent stages.

A written test may be conducted if considered necessary. NIF can conduct the examination directly or through a Central Government agency or another organisation having the required expertise.

Final selection will be made on the recommendations of the Selection Committee, taking into consideration the candidate’s interview performance, academic record, research contributions and relevant experience.

A reserve panel will also be prepared and will remain valid for one year from its approval for filling the advertised and subsequent vacancies.

Candidates should determine the applicable closing date from the publication date of the advertisement rather than treating August 29 as the start of a fixed 30-day deadline unless confirmed in the official recruitment portal.

Applications must be submitted online through the NIF Recruitment Portal. Hard copies of the application are not required.

2. Open Advertisement No. Adv/02/2026 and read the detailed eligibility conditions for the relevant Scientist post.
3. Register using a valid email address and mobile number.
4. Select the single post for which you meet the prescribed eligibility criteria.
5. Complete the online application with personal, educational, research and professional experience details.
6. Upload the required documents, including qualification, age, experience, category and publication-related documents, as applicable.
7. Pay the Rs. 1,000 application fee online if you are not covered by an exemption.
8. Review the information and uploaded documents before final submission.
9. Submit the application within the prescribed 30-day period and retain a copy for future reference.

Candidates already employed in Government Departments, PSUs, autonomous bodies, universities or government-funded research institutions are required to provide an NOC through the prescribed procedure. Foreign qualifications require an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities or the appropriate statutory/professional council.

Important Instructions for Applicants

Experience gained while pursuing a full-time degree will not be treated as professional experience for meeting the recruitment requirements. Candidates claiming OBC reservation must provide the prescribed certificate meeting the applicable validity and creamy-layer requirements.

NIF will not provide TA/DA or accommodation for attending the test or interview. Any addendum, corrigendum or further recruitment update will be published through the NIF website.
