Indian Overseas Bank Recruitment 2026 Drive: 250 Local Bank Officer Vacancies Now Available

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has announced recruitment for 250 Local Bank Officer posts in Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I). The recruitment is being conducted under Advertisement No. HRDD/RECT/02/2026-27, with vacancies distributed across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Online applications for Indian Overseas Bank LBO Recruitment 2026 opened on August 8 and will close on August 24, 2026. Graduates in any discipline can apply, provided they satisfy the age and local-language requirements for the state selected in their application. Candidates can apply for vacancies in only one state.

The Local Bank Officer posts carry the JMGS-I pay scale beginning at ₹48,480, along with applicable banking allowances and benefits. Selection will primarily involve an online examination, a Language Proficiency Test where required and a personal interview. Successful candidates will undergo two years of active-service probation.

Indian Overseas Bank issued the Local Bank Officer recruitment notification under Advertisement No. HRDD/RECT/02/2026-27 for filling 250 JMGS-I vacancies.

Indian Overseas Bank LBO Vacancy 2026

A total of 250 Local Bank Officer vacancies have been announced. Tamil Nadu has the largest allocation with 100 posts, while Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat have 50 vacancies each.

Some of the notified state vacancies include backlog positions. Horizontal reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities will apply according to the recruitment conditions.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a Graduation Degree in any discipline from a university recognized by the Government of India or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government.

Applicants should possess valid proof of their graduation qualification as required by the bank during document verification.

The recruitment is open across disciplines; however, satisfying the graduation requirement alone is not sufficient. Candidates must also meet the prescribed age and state-specific language requirements.

Local Language Proficiency

Proficiency in the local language of the state selected by the candidate is an important eligibility requirement.

Candidates are expected to be able to read, write and speak the applicable language.

Applicants who studied the specified local language as a subject in Class 10 or Class 12 may be exempted from appearing in the Language Proficiency Test, subject to satisfying the documentary requirements.

Other shortlisted candidates will have to qualify the Language Proficiency Test before appointment.

Age Limit

Applicants must be at least 20 years old and not more than 30 years old as on August 1, 2026.

Candidates should therefore have been born between August 2, 1996 and August 1, 2006, both dates inclusive.

Eligible candidates belonging to more than one relaxation category will be governed by the applicable combination rules. For eligible SC, ST and OBC candidates, combined relaxation is subject to the conditions prescribed by the bank and a maximum age of 50 years where applicable.

IOB Local Bank Officer Salary 2026

Local Bank Officers will be appointed in JMGS-I with the following pay scale:

₹48,480–2,000/7–62,480–2,340/2–67,160–2,680/7–85,920

This means the initial basic pay is ₹48,480, with subsequent increments progressing through the notified scale.

In addition to basic pay, selected officers will be eligible for applicable benefits such as Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and City Compensatory Allowance, along with other benefits admissible under Indian Overseas Bank rules.

The recruitment conditions also provide for one advance increment for eligible candidates possessing relevant previous experience, subject to fulfilment of the bank’s prescribed conditions.

Application Fee

The fee varies according to category and is non-refundable.

Payment must be made online. Available methods include debit card, credit card, Internet banking, BHIM and UPI.

Any bank transaction charges arising from online payment have to be borne by the applicant.

IOB Local Bank Officer Selection Process

Selection for the 250 LBO vacancies will be conducted through the prescribed recruitment stages, including an online examination and interview.

The stages provided for the recruitment are:

1. Online objective examination
2. Language Proficiency Test, where applicable
3. Personal interview
4. Document verification
5. Medical examination

Candidates who have documentary proof of studying the applicable local language in Class 10 or Class 12 may be exempt from the Language Proficiency Test as prescribed.

IOB LBO Online Exam Pattern 2026

The online examination consists of 140 questions carrying a maximum of 200 marks.

The total examination duration is three hours.

A penalty of 0.25 marks will be imposed for each incorrect answer.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Candidates should note that obtaining the minimum qualifying percentage does not automatically guarantee shortlisting for the subsequent recruitment stages.

Personal Interview

Candidates shortlisted according to their performance and the bank’s recruitment criteria will be called for a personal interview.

The interview carries 100 marks.

Candidates will also have to satisfy the local-language requirement and other eligibility conditions before final appointment.

Probation Period

Selected Local Bank Officers will be placed on probation for two years of active service.

Candidates will be required to satisfy the bank’s conditions governing probation and confirmation before being confirmed in the service.

Posting Conditions

This recruitment is specifically linked to the four states for which vacancies have been notified. Candidates must apply for only one state.

Selected Local Bank Officers will ordinarily remain posted in the state for which they applied for the first 12 years of service or until promotion to SMGS-IV, whichever occurs earlier, subject to the conditions prescribed by the bank.

Candidates should therefore carefully consider their preferred state and local-language proficiency before applying.

Service Bond

Candidates selected as Local Bank Officers will be required to execute a Financial Service Indemnity Bond.

The service requirement under the bond is separate from the two-year probation period applicable to selected officers.

These include educational qualification records, proof of date of birth, category certificates where applicable, disability certificate where applicable and documents relating to previous experience if claiming the benefit of relevant experience.
