Indian Museum, Kolkata has invited applications for five direct recruitment vacancies covering library, modelling, translation and driving functions. The Indian Museum Recruitment 2026 is being conducted under Vacancy Advertisement No. 04/2026, with one vacancy each for Library and Information Officer, Head Modeller, Hindi Translator, Modeller and Driver-cum-Mechanic.

The recruitment offers posts in Pay Levels 4, 5 and 6, with the corresponding basic pay scales ranging from ₹25,500–₹81,100 to ₹35,400–₹1,12,400. Eligibility varies considerably by post, ranging from Matriculation with a valid driving licence for Driver-cum-Mechanic to specialized degree, diploma and experience requirements for the professional positions.

Post-wise Qualification and Experience

Library and Information Officer

Candidates should possess a Master’s Degree or equivalent Honours Degree in Indian History, Anthropology or Arts along with a Diploma in Library Science.

At least seven years of library experience is required, preferably in a museum library. Candidates should also have published research work in Archaeology, Art or Anthropology.

Maximum age: 30 years.

Head Modeller

Applicants should possess a Degree or Diploma in Modelling or Sculpture with about five years of experience in sculpture models and allied work.

Knowledge of preparing diagrams and scale models is desirable.

Hindi Translator

Candidates should be Graduates with Hindi and English along with at least five years of translation experience.

Knowledge of Bengali and Hindi typing speed of 30 words per minute are listed as desirable qualifications.

Maximum age: 28 years.

Modeller

Applicants should have passed School Final or an equivalent examination and possess a Degree or Diploma from a recognized Art College with specialization in Modelling.

At least three years of practical experience in modelling is required. Previous experience of museum-related work is desirable.

Maximum age: 28 years.

Driver-cum-Mechanic

Candidates must have passed Class 10/Matriculation and possess a valid permanent motor driving licence.

Applicants should have thorough knowledge of motor-car mechanisms, five years of driving experience and the ability to undertake minor vehicle repairs.

Ability to handle heavy vehicles is desirable.

Maximum age: 28 years.

Pay Scale

The five positions fall under Pay Levels 4 to 6 of the applicable pay matrix.

The exact pay level applicable to each position should be checked against Vacancy Advertisement No. 04/2026 before applying. Applicable allowances will be governed by the rules of Indian Museum/Government of India.

Age Limit and Relaxation

Age will be calculated as on October 23, 2026.

Upper-age relaxation is applicable to eligible reserved-category candidates in accordance with Government of India rules.

The recruitment conditions also provide for applicable relaxation in specified cases involving candidates already in employment or otherwise found suitably qualified, subject to the prescribed provisions.

Selection Process

Indian Museum will use a written test and/or skill test according to the requirements of the individual post.
