GATE 2027 Registration Begins: Apply Online by September 27, Exams in February 2027

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 registration process has started, with IIT Madras accepting online applications from August 27, 2026. Candidates seeking to appear in the national-level examination can submit their applications without a late fee until September 27, 2026 at 11:59 PM, while late-fee applications will be accepted until October 5.

IIT Madras, the organizing institute for GATE 2027, released the examination notification on July 20, 2026. The Computer-Based Test will be conducted over six dates—February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027—with results scheduled to be announced on March 19, 2027.

GATE 2027 covers 30 test papers across Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce and Arts disciplines. A notable change for this cycle is the introduction of a Robotics & Automation (RA) test paper, while the syllabus of several existing papers has also been revised.

GATE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who are currently studying in the third or higher year of an eligible undergraduate degree programme can apply for GATE 2027.

Those who have already completed an eligible degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce or Arts are also eligible, subject to the detailed academic requirements prescribed for the examination.

No Age Limit for GATE 2027

There is no age limit for appearing in GATE 2027.

Eligibility is therefore determined primarily by the prescribed academic requirements rather than a minimum or maximum candidate age.

New Robotics & Automation Test Paper

GATE 2027 will offer 30 test papers, with Robotics & Automation (RA) introduced as a new paper for this examination cycle.

The addition expands the range of disciplines available to candidates. IIT Madras has also revised the syllabus for several papers, making it important for candidates to download and follow the GATE 2027 syllabus applicable to their chosen test paper rather than relying on material from previous examination cycles.

GATE 2027 Exam and Scorecard Process

GATE 2027 will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test.

The examination process consists of the CBT followed by declaration of results and issuance of GATE scorecards to eligible candidates.

The GATE score can subsequently be used according to the admission requirements of participating institutions. It may also be used for PSU recruitment where an organization specifically announces recruitment based on GATE 2027 scores.

How to Apply for GATE 2027

  1. Visit the official GATE 2027 website operated by IIT Madras.
  2. Open the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).
  3. Complete the initial registration using a valid email address and mobile number to generate the required enrolment credentials.
  4. Log in to GOAPS and enter the required personal, academic and communication details.
  5. Select the appropriate GATE 2027 test paper according to the applicable rules.
  6. Upload the prescribed photograph, signature, photo identity document and category certificate, where applicable, in the required format.
  7. Pay the applicable application fee online using the available electronic payment methods, such as UPI, net banking or credit/debit card.
  8. Review the entered information carefully before final submission.
  9. Submit the application by September 27, 2026 to avoid the additional late fee.
  10. Download and retain a PDF copy of the completed application for future reference.

Candidates who miss the regular deadline can submit their applications during the extended period up to October 5, 2026 by paying the applicable late fee.
