ECR GDCE Recruitment 2026 Notice Out for 1,465 ALP, Technician, JE, Station Master and Other Vacancies, Apply by October 15

Railway Recruitment Cell, East Central Railway (RRC/ECR) has opened applications for 1,465 vacancies under the General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE) 2026. The recruitment covers Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP), Technician, Junior Engineer, Goods Train Manager, Station Master, Depot Material Superintendent, clerical and other railway posts. Online applications can be submitted until 11:59 PM on October 15, 2026.

The ECR GDCE Recruitment 2026 is an internal railway recruitment exercise and is not open to the general public. Regular employees of East Central Railway and Rail Wheel Plant (RWP), Bela who meet the prescribed post-wise conditions can apply. RPF and RPSF personnel are not eligible under this notification, and employees cannot apply for the same post on which they are currently working.

Assistant Loco Pilot accounts for the largest share with 910 vacancies, followed by 389 Goods Train Manager posts. Depending on the post, qualifications range from Matriculation/SSLC with ITI or apprenticeship to Class 12, Diploma or Degree. The advertised positions fall under Pay Levels 2, 3, 5 and 6 of the 7th CPC.

The notified vacancies are provisional and may be increased, reduced or withdrawn according to railway requirements.

Qualification Requirements

Educational requirements differ according to the post. Assistant Loco Pilot applicants require Matriculation/SSLC with ITI or Act Apprenticeship in prescribed trades, or the specified Diploma/Degree in engineering disciplines.

Technician posts generally require Matriculation/SSLC along with ITI or Act Apprenticeship in the relevant trade. For Signal and Tele categories, the prescribed alternatives also include 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics where applicable.

Junior Engineer posts require a relevant three-year engineering Diploma or Degree in the specified discipline, while Depot Material Superintendent requires a three-year Diploma in Engineering in any discipline.

Candidates for Goods Train Manager, Station Master, Chief Commercial Cum Ticket Supervisor and Section Controller require a recognized Degree or equivalent. Senior Clerk also requires a Degree along with computer typing proficiency in English or Hindi.

For Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk, the qualification is 12th or equivalent with at least 50% aggregate marks, subject to the specified exemptions or relaxations for eligible categories and higher-qualified candidates.

Reserved-category employees competing against unreserved vacancies will not receive category-based age relaxation for those vacancies.

ECR GDCE Selection Process

The recruitment process begins with a single-stage Computer Based Test. The CBT carries negative marking of one-third mark for each incorrect answer, and normalization may be applied when the examination is conducted in multiple shifts.

  3. Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST) – For Senior Clerk post only.

Post-specific additional tests will follow where applicable. ALP, Station Master and Section Controller candidates are required to undergo the prescribed Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), while candidates for Senior Clerk must qualify the Computer Based Typing Skill Test.

The minimum CBT qualifying marks are 40% for UR, 30% each for OBC-NCL and SC, and 25% for ST candidates. For CBAT, candidates must obtain a minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery without category-based relaxation.

Senior Clerk candidates must demonstrate a computer typing speed of 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi. The typing test is qualifying in nature.

Candidates clearing the applicable examination stages will proceed to document verification and medical examination.

CBT Exam Pattern

  • Negative marking of 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer.
  • Marks may be normalized if the exam is conducted in multiple shifts.

How to Apply for ECR GDCE Recruitment 2026

  1. Visit the East Central Railway website at ecr.indianrailways.gov.in.
  2. Open the Hajipur Headquarters section and navigate to RRC Patna and the GDCE section.
  3. Select GDCE Notification No. RRC/ECR/HRD/Rectt/GDCE/2026 and open the online application.
  4. Complete new registration using the 11-digit employee ID and date of birth.
  5. Enter the required personal, service, educational and contact information.
  6. Log in using the registration credentials received through email or SMS.
  7. Upload the prescribed photograph, signature and supporting certificates.
  8. Select only the posts for which you are eligible and enter the required post preferences.
  9. Review the application carefully and submit it by 11:59 PM on October 15, 2026.
  10. Save or print the submitted application for future reference.

Only one online application should be submitted. Applicants are not required to forward a printout of the application or copies of certificates to RRC/ECR by post.
