The Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has announced a walk-in recruitment drive for 17 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Research Associate (RA) positions. The research opportunities are available across engineering disciplines including Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical, Electronics, Instrumentation and Electrical Engineering.

DRDO DIHAR Recruitment 2026 will be conducted through a walk-in interview on October 14, 2026, at DIHAR in Leh, Ladakh. Of the 17 available positions, 15 are for Junior Research Fellows and two are for Research Associates. The upper age limits are 28 years for JRF and 35 years for RA, with applicable relaxation for reserved categories.

Candidates attending the walk-in must bring their original educational and other eligibility documents along with self-attested photocopies. JRF applicants require the prescribed engineering qualification with GATE eligibility or the specified M.Tech qualification, while RA candidates require a Ph.D. or M.Tech with the stipulated research experience and publication requirement.

The Defence Institute of High Altitude Research is a DRDO laboratory operating under the Ministry of Defence. Its latest recruitment is for temporary research positions rather than regular permanent appointments.

DIHAR Vacancy Details

The stated amounts are research fellowships/remuneration and should not be treated as regular 7th CPC pay scales.

Junior Research Fellow Qualification

DIHAR has 15 Junior Research Fellow vacancies across the notified engineering disciplines.

Applicants must possess a B.E./B.Tech in the relevant subject in First Division along with a valid GATE score.

Alternatively, candidates with an M.Tech in the relevant discipline may apply provided they obtained First Division at both Graduate and Postgraduate levels.

The maximum age for JRF candidates is 28 years, with relaxation for SC, ST and OBC candidates according to Government of India orders.

Research Associate Qualification

Two Research Associate positions are available in relevant Computer Science/IT, Electronics, Instrumentation and Electrical Engineering disciplines.

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in the relevant field or an M.Tech with at least three years of research, teaching, design or development experience after completing M.Tech.

Candidates applying through the M.Tech and experience route must also have at least one research paper published in an SCI-indexed journal.

The upper age limit for Research Associate positions is 35 years. Applicable relaxation for SC, ST and OBC candidates will be provided according to Government of India rules.

Fellowship

HRA will be payable according to the applicable rules.

Selection Process

Candidates will first undergo eligibility screening and verification of their testimonials during registration at the walk-in venue.

Those satisfying the prescribed conditions will proceed to a face-to-face interview. Original educational, experience, category and other applicable documents will be checked as part of the process.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the walk-in interview.

Documents Required for the Walk-In

Candidates should carry all original documents along with one set of self-attested photocopies. Important documents include proof of date of birth such as the Matriculation certificate or birth certificate, relevant degree certificates and marksheets, category certificate where applicable, recent passport-size photographs and valid photo identification.

JRF applicants should carry their valid GATE scorecard where it forms the basis of eligibility.

Research Associate candidates should carry the relevant experience certificates and documentary evidence of the required SCI-indexed research publication where applicable.

Candidates should also bring the duly completed application form if prescribed in the official recruitment notice.
