Bihar Home Guard Company Commander Vacancy 2026

The 65 Company Commander vacancies have been distributed among different reservation categories. Of the total posts, 22 are horizontally reserved for women and one for dependents of freedom fighters.

Qualification and Home Guard Service Requirements

Candidates must have passed a graduation examination from a recognized university or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the State Government as on August 1, 2026.

In addition to the academic qualification, an applicant must be enrolled and trained in the Bihar Home Guard Force. The candidate must have completed at least five years of service/duty and should have at least 10 years of service remaining as on August 1, 2026.

Age Limit

Candidates must be at least 24 years old and not more than 50 years of age as on August 1, 2026.

Physical Standards

Male and female candidates must meet the prescribed physical standards before appointment.

A minimum chest expansion of 5 cm is required for male candidates. Female candidates must have a minimum weight of 48 kg.

The application fee is uniform across categories.

BPSSSC Company Commander Selection Process

The recruitment process consists of a Preliminary Written Examination, Main Written Examination and Physical Efficiency Test.

Preliminary Examination

The preliminary examination will carry 200 marks and contain 100 questions on General Knowledge and Contemporary Issues. Candidates will get two hours to complete the examination and must secure at least 30% marks to qualify.

Candidates up to 20 times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted for the Main Examination based on merit and applicable reservation provisions.

Main Written Examination

The Main Examination consists of two papers.

General Hindi is qualifying in nature, with 30% required to qualify, and its marks will not be included in the final merit list.

Paper II will contain 100 questions covering General Studies, General Science, Civics, Indian History, Indian Geography, Mathematics and Mental Ability.

A deduction of 0.2 marks will apply for each incorrect answer. Candidates up to six times the number of vacancies will be called for the Physical Efficiency Test on the basis of Main Examination merit.

Main Exam Minimum Qualifying Marks

Physical Efficiency Test

Candidates called for the PET must qualify in the prescribed running, long jump, high jump and shot put events.

Candidates will receive a maximum of three attempts for the long jump, high jump and shot put events.

The final merit list will be prepared using marks obtained in the Main Written Examination. In case of a tie, preference will first be determined by age, followed by higher educational qualification and then alphabetical order of the candidate’s name as recorded in the Class 10 board certificate.

Reservation Rules

The recruitment provides 35% horizontal reservation for women within the applicable categories. This benefit is available to eligible permanent residents of Bihar.

A 2% horizontal reservation provision applies to eligible dependents of freedom fighters of Bihar approved for pension by the Central Government. EWS reservation will apply according to the prescribed Bihar rules, while eligible transgender candidates are covered under the applicable Backward Class provisions.

Candidates seeking Bihar-specific reservation benefits must produce the required certificates. Candidates from outside Bihar will be considered under the Unreserved category for reservation purposes.
