UPSC ESE Recruitment 2026: Apply Online for 474 Engineering Services Vacancies

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the notification for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2026, offering a golden opportunity for engineering graduates to enter prestigious Group A and Group B posts in the Government of India. The recruitment aims to fill approximately 474 vacancies in disciplines such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. The examination will be held in three stages — Prelims, Mains, and Personality Test — and selected candidates will serve in critical roles across various ministries, departments, and PSUs contributing to India’s infrastructure and development sectors.

The application process began on 26th September 2025, and eligible candidates can apply online through the official UPSC portal until 16th October 2025. With a wide variety of engineering services under its scope, the ESE 2026 is one of the most sought-after engineering competitive exams in India.

Eligibility Criteria

Education

• A degree in Engineering from a recognized university OR
• Passed Section A and B of the Institution of Engineers (India) OR
• Obtained a degree/diploma from a foreign institution recognized by the Government of India OR
• Graduate membership or associate membership of recognized engineering societies in India or abroad (as specified)

Note: Some posts require a Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Electronics, Wireless Communication, or Radio Physics.

Salary

• As per the 7th CPC Pay Matrix for Group A and Group B engineering posts (varies by department and designation).

Age Limit

• Minimum: 21 years
• Maximum: 30 years (as on 1st January 2026)
• Candidate must be born between 2nd January 1996 and 1st January 2005
• Age relaxation applicable for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen as per rules

1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type – 500 marks)
2. Mains Examination (Conventional Type – 600 marks)

2. After OTR, log in to apply for ESE 2026 using your registered credentials.
