SSC Stenographer Selection Process 2026

Selection for SSC Stenographer Grade C and Grade D posts is conducted through two major stages. Candidates first have to appear in the Computer-Based Examination. Those who secure the required qualifying standard in the CBT are shortlisted for the Stenography Skill Test.

The Computer-Based Examination covers General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness and English Language and Comprehension. Questions are objective in nature, and 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer.

The second stage assesses the candidate’s practical stenography ability. Candidates are given a 10-minute dictation during the Skill Test. The required dictation speed is 100 words per minute for Stenographer Grade C and 80 words per minute for Stenographer Grade D. Candidates must then transcribe the dictated passage according to the applicable SSC requirements.
