HAL DT and MT Vacancy Details

The recruitment drive offers an equal number of vacancies for Design Trainee and Management Trainee posts. There are 60 positions in each category, taking the overall vacancy count to 120.

HAL DT and MT Educational Qualification

Applicants for Design Trainee and Management Trainee positions are required to possess a B.E./B.Tech degree in the relevant engineering discipline. General category candidates are required to have secured at least 70% marks in the prescribed qualification.

The minimum requirement is relaxed to 60% marks for SC, ST and PwBD candidates, subject to the conditions specified in the HAL recruitment notification.

HAL DT and MT Age Limit

HAL DT and MT Salary

Candidates selected as Design Trainees and Management Trainees will undergo a 52-week training programme. Following successful completion of the required training and absorption, candidates will be placed in the Grade-II pay scale of ₹50,000 to ₹1,60,000.

The recruitment provides engineering graduates an opportunity to begin their careers with HAL, a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking operating under the Ministry of Defence.

Selected candidates may be posted at HAL divisions, research and development centres or offices located at places including Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Hyderabad, Nasik, Koraput, Barrackpore, Lucknow, Kanpur and Korwa, depending on organizational requirements.

HAL DT and MT Exam Pattern 2026

The online Computer Based Test will have a duration of 150 minutes, or two-and-a-half hours. Candidates will have to answer a total of 160 multiple-choice questions divided into three sections.

Part I will contain 20 questions on General Awareness. Part II will have 40 questions covering English and Reasoning, while Part III will carry the highest weight with 100 questions related to the candidate’s engineering discipline.

The examination will be available in Hindi and English. Candidates should therefore focus heavily on their core engineering discipline, which accounts for 100 of the 160 questions.

HAL DT and MT Selection Process

Candidates will initially appear for the Online Computer Based Test. Those shortlisted on the basis of their performance will be called for a Personal Interview in Bengaluru.

The online test carries 85% weightage in preparation of the final merit, while the Personal Interview carries the remaining 15%. Candidates are required to secure at least 50% marks in each stage to qualify, as per the stated selection criteria.

The recruitment process also includes document verification and a pre-employment medical examination before appointment.

HAL DT and MT Service Agreement Bond

Candidates finally selected for the trainee positions will be required to execute a Service Agreement Bond. Under the agreement, candidates must serve HAL for five years, excluding the 52-week training period.

Candidates who breach the service agreement may be required to reimburse the actual training expenses incurred by HAL, subject to a maximum liability of ₹15 lakh. Applicants should therefore understand the service commitment before joining the organization.

What Happens After the HAL Written Exam?
