The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) has opened 227 internship opportunities at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) for young candidates from a wide range of educational backgrounds. The nine-month programme includes seats for Class 10, Class 12, ITI, Diploma, Graduate and Postgraduate candidates across technical, engineering, clerical and support disciplines.

The internship notification dated August 26, 2026 covers 92 ITI trade seats, 80 SSLC-level seats, 27 HSE/ITI Warehouse Assistant seats, 16 Diploma seats, 11 Graduate positions and one Postgraduate Hindi position. Candidates selected under the scheme will undergo their internship at Cochin Shipyard in Kochi, Kerala.

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme vacancies carry a monthly stipend of Rs. 11,000 for ITI, SSLC and HSE/ITI categories and Rs. 13,000 for Diploma, Graduate and Postgraduate interns. Applications are handled online through the PMIS portal, where Cochin Shipyard will post opportunities from time to time.

The latest PM Internship Scheme opportunities are being offered through Cochin Shipyard Limited, a Miniratna Schedule ‘A’ Government of India company.

A total of 227 candidates are proposed to be engaged for nine months. The opportunities range from skilled trades such as Electrician, Fitter and Welder to engineering Diploma disciplines, clerical work, Nursing, Pharmacy and Hindi.

The programme is an internship rather than regular employment. Completion of the nine-month internship does not entitle candidates to permanent employment with Cochin Shipyard.

The 227 PMIS seats at Cochin Shipyard have been divided according to qualification level.

The ITI category has the highest number of seats, followed by opportunities for candidates who have completed Class 10.

PM Internship Scheme ITI Vacancies

Candidates with Class 10 and the relevant ITI National Trade Certificate can apply for 92 seats spread across 18 trades.

These positions offer a stipend of Rs. 11,000 per month during the nine-month internship.

PM Internship Scheme for 10th Pass Candidates

The scheme includes 80 internship seats for candidates who have passed Class 10/SSLC.

Candidates selected for these positions will receive Rs. 11,000 per month.

HSE/ITI Internship Vacancies

Another 27 seats have been announced for Intern Warehouse Assistant.

This category allows candidates with either the prescribed higher secondary qualification or an ITI National Trade Certificate to apply.

PM Internship Scheme for Diploma Holders

Sixteen internship opportunities are available for Diploma candidates across eight disciplines.

Candidates require the relevant recognized Diploma in Engineering, Technology or the applicable professional discipline.

Diploma interns will receive Rs. 13,000 per month.

PM Internship Scheme for Graduates

Eleven Clerical internship seats are available for Graduate candidates.

Qualifications such as BA, B.Sc., B.Com., BBA and BCA are included under the stated eligibility conditions. Performing Arts and B.Tech qualifications are excluded from this Graduate internship category.

PM Internship Scheme for Postgraduates

One postgraduate internship has been announced for Hindi.

PM Internship Scheme Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be between 18 and 25 years of age and satisfy the educational qualification prescribed for the internship category they select.

Applicants must satisfy both the qualification requirement for the particular Cochin Shipyard internship and the broader eligibility conditions applicable under PMIS.

Who Cannot Apply for the Prime Minister Internship Scheme?

The stated eligibility conditions exclude several categories of candidates from these internship opportunities.

Candidates are not eligible if they:

• Are graduates or postgraduates from IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISERs, NIDs, IIITs or IISc.
• Hold qualifications such as CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MD, MS, MBA or equivalent, MPhil or PhD.
• Are currently participating in a skill development, apprenticeship, internship or training programme under a Central or State Government scheme.
• Have previously completed apprenticeship or training under NATS or NAPS.
• Have family income exceeding Rs. 12 lakh in the preceding financial year.
• Have a family member who is a permanent or regular government employee.

Prime Minister Internship Scheme Stipend

The stipend for the Cochin Shipyard internships ranges from Rs. 11,000 to Rs. 13,000 per month.

The stated monthly amount is inclusive of the applicable DBT contribution from the Government of India.

No travel expenses are admissible, while boarding and lodging will not be provided by Cochin Shipyard.

Selection Process

There is no separate written examination specified for these 227 PM Internship Scheme seats.

Candidates will initially be shortlisted according to the percentage of marks secured in the prescribed qualification applicable to their chosen trade or discipline.

If two candidates have the same percentage of marks, seniority in age will be used to determine relative merit.
