The Government of Meghalaya’s Secretariat Administration Department (Nazarat) has invited online applications for 153 Grade IV vacancies in the Meghalaya Civil Secretariat. The recruitment includes 124 Peon, 17 Cleaner, six Sweeper, three Chowkidar and three Mali positions, with applications accepted until 5:00 PM on September 18, 2026.

Candidates require a minimum Class VI qualification and must be between 18 and 32 years of age as of January 1, 2026, subject to applicable relaxation. The advertised posts are placed at Level-1, with a pay range of ₹18,000–56,900 along with applicable allowances.

Selection will be based on a written examination carrying 100 marks, divided equally between General English and General Awareness. No interview will be conducted. The examination is proposed at centres including Shillong, Tura, Jowai, Nongstoin and Nongpoh.

The Secretariat Administration Department (Nazarat) issued the recruitment notification on August 17, 2026. The 153 vacancies comprise 142 fresh vacancies and 11 positions remaining unfilled from the earlier recruitment.

Meghalaya Civil Secretariat Vacancy 2026

Peon accounts for more than three-fourths of the available positions, with 124 vacancies. The remaining 29 positions are distributed among Cleaner, Sweeper, Chowkidar and Mali posts.

The vacancies are distributed among UR, Khasi-Jaintia, Garo and OSTs/SCs categories according to the applicable reservation provisions. Candidates should check the detailed notification for the complete horizontal reservation breakup for PwD and skilled sportsperson candidates.

Qualification Requirements

Candidates applying for Peon, Cleaner, Sweeper, Chowkidar or Mali posts must have passed Class VI.

Applicants must also be Indian citizens as prescribed under the recruitment conditions.

Age Limit

The age requirement will be determined as of January 1, 2026.

For proof of age, candidates must provide one of the documents accepted under the recruitment notice, such as the relevant Municipal Board/Health & Family Welfare certificate, school certificate or HSLC admit card.

Salary and Pay Level

Selected candidates will be appointed at Level-1 of the applicable pay matrix, carrying a pay range of ₹18,000 to ₹56,900.

Other admissible allowances will be governed by the applicable Government of Meghalaya rules.

Meghalaya Secretariat Selection Process

Selection will be conducted through a written examination. No interview is prescribed for the Grade IV recruitment.

The normal examination duration is one hour. PwD candidates will be allowed one hour and 30 minutes. Negative marking will apply according to the instructions provided in the question paper.

The proposed examination centres are Shillong, Tura, Jowai, Nongstoin and Nongpoh. Once selected, the examination centre cannot ordinarily be changed. Where an insufficient number of candidates select Jowai, Nongstoin or Nongpoh, candidates may be allotted the nearest available centre.

Application Fee

The fee can be paid using Debit/ATM Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, UPI or e-Challan for cash payment through an SBI branch. Applicable bank charges may be additional.
