CPCB Announces 51 Scientist, Scientific Assistant, DEO and Other Vacancies, Applications Open August 24

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has announced recruitment for 51 contractual positions under the Strengthening of Environmental Regulators (SER)-Phase-III Project on River Ganga. Vacancies are available for Scientist-D, Scientist-C, Scientist-B, Assistant Manager (Finance), Administrative Assistant, Scientific Assistant, Taxonomist, Data Entry Operator and Field Assistant posts.

The CPCB online application process is scheduled to begin on August 24, 2026, and candidates can apply until September 7, 2026. The project is funded by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) under the Namami Gange Programme. Appointments will initially be for one year and may be extended, based on performance, up to May 6, 2028.

CPCB Recruitment 2026 Notification

The CPCB recruitment drive covers scientific, technical, administrative, finance and field-level positions. Scientific Assistant has the highest allocation with 13 posts, followed by Scientist-B with 12 vacancies. Scientist-C and Field Assistant have eight vacancies each.

CPCB Eligibility Criteria

Qualifications and experience vary substantially across the advertised positions. Applicants must meet the requirements for the specific post for which they submit an application.

Scientist-D

Candidates require a First Class Master’s degree in Environmental/Natural Science or a First Class B.E./B.Tech in Environmental, Chemical, Civil, Energy & Environment, Biotechnology or the prescribed related discipline. A cumulative research impact factor of at least 10 and seven years of relevant experience are required.

Relevant experience includes areas such as river pollution, industrial pollution control, sewage management and environmental management.

Scientist-C

The prescribed educational background is a First Class Master’s degree in Environmental/Natural Science or a First Class B.E./B.Tech in the relevant engineering discipline. Candidates require a cumulative impact factor of at least seven and five years of relevant experience.

Scientist-B

Candidates should have the prescribed First Class Master’s or B.E./B.Tech qualification in a relevant discipline along with valid GATE with at least 90 percentile or NET-JRF, as applicable. Three years of relevant experience is required, with eligible research and teaching experience considered under the prescribed conditions.

Assistant Manager (Finance)

Applicants require a First Class Master’s degree in Commerce with Finance & Accounting/Taxation specialization, CA, or MBA in Finance & Accounting.

Eight years of post-qualification experience is required, including at least two years of taxation-related experience. Relevant knowledge includes Tally/QuickBooks and statutory functions such as TDS, GST, PF, ESI, STPI filings and payroll.

Administrative Assistant

Candidates require a First Class Bachelor’s degree along with computer knowledge and at least five years of administrative experience, preferably in a government department, PSU or autonomous organization. Candidates must also qualify the prescribed noting and drafting skill test.

Scientific Assistant

A First Class Master’s degree in Environmental/Natural Science or B.E./B.Tech in a prescribed relevant discipline is required, along with GATE/NET-JRF as applicable. Candidates should check the detailed advertisement for the complete experience requirements.

Taxonomist

Applicants require a First Class M.Sc. in Botany or Zoology with at least 75% marks, along with the prescribed GATE/NET-JRF requirement and cumulative impact factor of at least seven. Other eligibility conditions should be checked in the detailed notification.

Data Entry Operator

Candidates should possess a First Class Bachelor’s degree in Science or BCA. Applicants must qualify a computer and typing skill test covering MS Office, English typing at 45 words per minute and Hindi typing at 35 words per minute.

Field Assistant

Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Science and at least 55% marks. Knowledge of water and wastewater sampling and preservation is also required.

Contract Period

Appointments will initially be made for one year on a contractual basis. The engagement may be extended based on performance and project requirements, up to May 6, 2028.

The contractual appointment will not provide candidates with any right to claim regularization in CPCB.

Selection Process

CPCB may conduct screening and document verification before proceeding with the prescribed selection stage. Depending on the post and number of eligible applicants, selection may involve a written test and interview or an interview alone, as decided by CPCB.

Interviews, where applicable, will be conducted in Delhi, with dates and further instructions to be published by CPCB.

Skill-based positions may also require candidates to qualify the relevant tests prescribed for the post.
