Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has invited online applications for 60 Ship Draftsman Trainee posts in Mechanical and Electrical disciplines. The recruitment has been announced under Reference No. CSL/P&A/RECTT/TRAINEES/GENERAL/2023/1 dated August 18, 2026, with 47 vacancies in Mechanical and 13 in Electrical.

The Cochin Shipyard Ship Draftsman Trainee Recruitment 2026 application process opened on August 19 and will close on September 4, 2026. Candidates need SSLC along with a three-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline with at least 60% marks, besides having a flair for draftsmanship and proficiency in CAD.

Unlike recruitments involving written examinations and interviews, CSL will select Ship Draftsman Trainees through a 100-mark Practical Test involving preparation of drawings using CAD software. Selected candidates will undergo training for two years at CSL, Kochi.

Educational Qualification

Ship Draftsman Trainee (Mechanical)

Candidates must have passed SSLC and possess a three-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a State Board of Technical Education with at least 60% marks.

Applicants should also have a flair for draftsmanship and proficiency in CAD.

Ship Draftsman Trainee (Electrical)

Candidates need SSLC along with a three-year Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a State Board of Technical Education with a minimum of 60% marks.

Flair for draftsmanship and proficiency in CAD are also required.

Age Limit

The upper age limit is 25 years as on September 4, 2026. Accordingly, applicants should have been born on or after September 5, 2001.

The applicable relaxation is subject to the reservation of the relevant post and conditions prescribed by CSL.

CSL Ship Draftsman Trainee Stipend

The apprenticeship-style training engagement will run for two years, with the stipend increasing in the second year.

Payment for extra working hours will also be made as applicable under the recruitment terms.

After completion of training, there is a possibility of contractual engagement; candidates should note that this should not be treated as a guarantee of regular or contractual appointment.

Selection Process

There is no written examination for the CSL Ship Draftsman Trainee Recruitment 2026. Selection will be based on a Practical Test carrying 100 marks.

The test will assess candidates through preparation of a drawing using CAD software and will be conducted at CSL, Kochi.

CSL may shortlist applicants for the Practical Test following scrutiny or verification of certificates.

Discipline-wise rank lists will be prepared according to Practical Test marks. In case candidates obtain the same marks, seniority in age will be used for resolving the tie.

The notification also provides for relaxation of the minimum pass marks if an adequate number of candidates do not qualify.

The ₹300 fee is non-refundable and must be paid online during the application period.
