The Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS), Sarnath, Varanasi, has invited applications for 59 faculty positions across Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor cadres. Assistant Professor accounts for 43 of the vacancies, while nine positions are available for Professor and seven for Associate Professor.

The CIHTS Recruitment 2026 is being conducted under Advertisement No. CIHTS/Acad./Rectt. 01/2026. Online applications are being accepted through the institute’s Samarth recruitment portal, with October 5, 2026 as the closing date based on the 30-day application window from September 5. Applicants are also required to send the prescribed hard copy of their application and supporting documents within three days after the online application deadline.

The faculty posts carry Academic Levels 10, 13A and 14. Depending on the position, candidates require a relevant Master’s degree, Ph.D., NET/SLET/SET qualification and prescribed teaching or research experience.

Assistant Professor represents nearly three-fourths of the advertised positions, with 43 vacancies. The post-wise distribution and applicable academic pay levels are as follows:

Professor Qualification and Experience

Candidates applying for Professor posts require a Ph.D. in the concerned, allied or relevant discipline along with a Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks.

Applicants must also have at least 10 years of teaching experience in a university or college as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor and/or qualifying research experience, subject to the requirements specified in the recruitment advertisement.

Associate Professor Eligibility

For Associate Professor, candidates require a Ph.D. in the concerned, allied or relevant discipline and a Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks.

A minimum of eight years of experience as an Assistant Professor with a Ph.D. is prescribed.

Assistant Professor Qualification

Applicants for Assistant Professor posts require a Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in the relevant subject from an Indian university, or an equivalent qualification from an accredited foreign university.

Candidates are also required to have cleared NET, SLET or SET in the relevant subject in accordance with applicable UGC requirements. Eligible Ph.D. degree holders are exempt from NET subject to the applicable UGC provisions.

Age Limit

CIHTS Faculty Salary

The Professor position carries Academic Level 14 with a pay scale of ₹1,44,200–₹2,18,200.

Associate Professors will be appointed at Academic Level 13A, carrying ₹1,31,400–₹2,17,100, while Assistant Professors are placed at Academic Level 10 with a pay scale of ₹57,700–₹1,82,400.
