  • Educational Qualification – 10 + 2 with Physics and Mathematics

In addition to these exams, the Indian Navy also recruits officers through other exams such as NDA and CDS. Both of these exams are conducted by the Union Public Service Commission twice a year.

NDA – National Defense Academy

NDA – National Defense Academy exam – is conducted for candidates after clearing their class 12th exam.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality – Male Indian Citizens
  • Educational Qualification – 10 + 2 or equivalent examination with Mathematics, Physics and English.
  • Age – 16.5 to 19.5 years.

  • Duration – 150 Minutes
  • Total Marks – 900
  • SSB Interview Marks – 900

After passing the written test, all eligible candidates have to clear the medical and physical test. After which you have to appear for the interview as well. You are then provided with rigorous training before joining the Indian Armed Forces.

CDS – Combined Defense Services

CDS – Combined Defense Services exam – is conducted for candidates for completing their graduation courses.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality – Men and Women
  • Educational Qualification – 3 year graduation in any discipline from a recognized university or B.E. or B. Tech.
  • Age – 19 to 25 years

  • Duration – 120 Minutes

After passing the written test, all eligible candidates have to clear the medical and physical test. After which you have to appear for the interview as well. You are then provided with rigorous training before joining the Indian Armed Forces.

Other Ways to Join Indian Navy

  1. 10 + 2 Cadet Entry Scheme

If you do not want to write a written test for joining the Indian Navy, you can opt for the Cadet Entry Scheme. Under this scheme, candidates are initially selected through the Services Selection Board and are then sent to the Indian Naval Academy for completing their B. Tech. course. After the successful completion of the course, the candidate is granted Permanent Commission in the Executive, Engineering, and Electrical branches of the Indian Navy recruitment.

  1. University Entry Scheme

Under the University Entry Scheme, seventh and eighth-semester engineering students are eligible to join the Indian Navy recruitment process under the Executive and Technical Branches of the Indian Navy. Recruiting officers from the Indian Navy visits different AICTE approved colleges for shortlisting the candidates, who are then called for a Short Service Commission interview. After the interview, all of the eligible candidates have to clear a medical and fitness test. Being said that, the final selection in the Indian Army is based on the merit list and on the basis of marks obtained in the SSB interviews.

  1. Recruitment through NCC

University graduate students who have NCC ‘C’ certificate and a minimum of ‘B’ grading and 50% marks in their degree examination are eligible to be inducted into the Indian Navy as regular commissioned officers. Such graduates do not have to appear for the CDS exam that is conducted by the UPSC two times a year. These candidates are eligible to join the Indian Navy only through the SSB interviews. Therefore, if you meet the eligibility criteria and do not want to write the written test for joining the Indian Navy, you can have a career in the Indian Armed Forces through NCC recruitment.

  1. Special Naval Architecture Entry Scheme

The Special Naval Architecture Entry Scheme is another way to join the Indian Navy without appearing for the written test. The Indian Government recently announced the induction of Naval Architect Officers into the Indian Navy on a Short Commission basis. The recruiting officers visit various colleges where B. Tech, Architecture courses are offered to shortlist candidates for interviews. Once the eligible candidates clear the interviews, they are required to undergo a medical and fitness test. If found fit, these candidates are then selected on their merit and provided training before joining the force through Indian Navy Recruitment.
